The load factor in a turn

In a turn you bank the wings. The lift is then tilted: one part holds you up, another part pulls you round the turn.

To stay level, the vertical part must remain as large as your weight. So your wing must make more lift than in straight flight. The ratio of lift to weight is the load factor n, expressed in G.
